"Collective – Poetic – Refusal" Talk at FRAMER FRAMED November 12 with Tereza Stejskalová and Charles Esche

On the occasion of the closing of the exhibition It Won’t Be Long Now, Comrades! at Framer Framed and the launch of the publication of theSchool of Missing Studies, we invite you to the presentations by Van Abbemuseum director Charles Esche and It Won’t Be Long Now, Comrades! artists Željka Blakšic aka Gita Blak and Tereza Stejskalová. In their presentations, the guest speakers will dive into the concept of ‘the missing’ in different ways. What losses are we experiencing in the process and as a result of modernization? What (historical) details are left out of larger narratives? And how can we set our own pedagogical terms and use art create new spaces of imagination and learning?
The talks are followed by an informal discussion.

The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow

Residency at Pushkin Museum from 16th -21st of May, as part of the project “Trauma & Revival”.

The East-West cultural narrative of Europe has always been nurtured by mutual fascination, various exchanges but also misunderstandings throughout the Cold War and continuing through the present day. Artists were and still are at the forefront of efforts to change perceptions between the two sides, connect people and introduce newways of thinking and understanding one another.

“Trauma & Revival” offers an ambitious journey that showcases and reflects upon the ties between the East and the West during the Cold War and today. Between 2015 and 2018, six partners will engage one another in the interest of international cooperation, bringing together artists, intellectuals and citizens from across the continent. “Trauma & Revival” offers a stimulating platform to revisit a shared history, change today’s perceptions and imagine new forms of cultural dialogue. It echoes the current context in Europe. Through exhibitions, artist residencies, video programs, workshops, conferences, round tables, and a digital timeline, this project will raise meaningful questions about our current relationships in order to move towards a common future.
